HALOX® travels to South Africa for the Coatings for Africa 2013 Symposium

HALOX® traveled to South Africa, May 21-23, for the Coatings for Africa 2013 Symposium. During the conference, Dr. Tony Gichuhi, Director of Research and Development, and Technical Services, presented a paper titled: “Screening Additives for Corrosion Inhibition.”

Abstract:The physical and electrochemical behavior of anticorrosive pigments is studied using electrochemical techniques such as electrochemical impedance and open circuit potential. The inhibition efficiency of various grades of zinc phosphates and select organic corrosion inhibitors used as synergists was studied over various substrates, namely cold rolled steel, galvanized, Galvalume, aluminum, and hot rolled steel. The paper highlights the use of several corrosion techniques ranging from static salt spray to cyclic corrosion to study the behavior of coatings under different corrosive conditions. Our primary objective was to screen various corrosion inhibiting additives and to identify which among these was the most efficient at preventing corrosion over multiple substrates. For the sake of brevity, the authors decided to focus only on water-based paints.

Coatings for Africa was held at Gallagher Estate, Midland Gauteng, South Africa. For more information about the conference, please visit
